Expanded air quality monitoring network launching in Hackney: The first of four new automatic air quality monitoring stations has been installed by Hackney Council on Queensbridge Road, in an expansion of its existing air quality monitoring network. Providing live monitoring of nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter pollution, the new stations join a 150-strong network of diffusion tube monitors already in place across the borough.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich offers free cycle skills sessions to anyone over the age of seven who lives, works or studies in the borough. You can book up to four hours for free, usually booked as two two-hour sessions.
E-Z Cycle is the Council’s e-bike loan scheme available to anyone who lives, works or studies in Royal Greenwich aged 18 or over. It costs £10 for a month which covers insurance costs. This project has been paused due to COVID-19.

February 2022 saw the grand unveiling of the first school parklet to be installed in City of Westminster outside St Clement Danes CE Primary School, funded as part of the Healthy Streets Everyday programme.
In collaboration with London Borough of Merton and St Mark’s Primary School, Yes Make developed a nature trail for young children in what was an abandoned space.
Hackney introduced measures using solid planters on either side of the roads to reduce the carriageway width. At Micawber Street, Ebenezer Street and Nile Street, a lockable bollard has been placed in the middle of these planters. The filter at Shepherdess Walk just south of the junction with Micawber Street does not include a lockable bollard and is instead being enforced by cameras in order to deter vehicles driving through the filters. Signs and road markings make it clear that regular vehicles cannot pass through.
A type of road closure, known as a traffic filter (planters or bollards on the road, which prevent motor vehicles from passing through) at Ashenden Road junction with Glyn Road and Meeson Street junction with Kingsmead Way, as shown on the drawing attached below, has been installed. The traffic filter eliminates through-traffic, including rat-running traffic trying to avoid queues on Homerton High Street, to improving road safety and opportunities for social distancing for residents, pedestrians and cyclists on Ashenden Road and Meeson Street.

Following a consultation with local residents, the Council is introducing road closures at: Nevill Road between Osterley Road and Walford Road; Clonbrock Road at its junction with Nevill Road; Allen Road at its junction with Nevill Road.

The Bowes Primary and Surrounding Streets Quieter Neighbourhood (QN) was implemented as a trial in September 2020 using experimental traffic orders. In July 2020, as part of our people-friendly streets scheme, we introduced a low traffic neighbourhood trial in St Peter’s. Like many neighbourhoods within the borough, St Peter’s has suffered from increased traffic volumes in recent years from the use of the area as a short-cut.
The HSE programme has helped to fund the trial of a low emission delivery service for businesses in Finchley. Additionally, the service helped to remove vehicles from the road improving air quality and congestion in the local area.
As part of Islington Council’s people-friendly streets programme and the need for an urgent transport response to COVID-19, Canonbury East is the second people friendly streets neighbourhood in the borough. It has been created to allow more space for people to walk and cross the road safely, use buggies and wheelchairs, and cycle as part of everyday life. The scheme went live on 3 August 2020.
The Canonbury West people-friendly streets (PFS) trial, is having the intended impacts in the area of reducing motorised traffic across internal roads, reducing motorised traffic overall across internal and boundary roads, increasing levels of cycling on some internal roads, and reducing levels of speeding on internal roads, while air quality has improved in line with borough trends.
Wider pavements, safer crossings, improved lighting and CCTV all feature in the £2.7 million investment which includes traffic restrictions around Old Bethnal Green Road and Arnold Circus. It is hoped the changes will help to enhance safety on residential streets.

CRP's HSE Programme funded a Xmas Light Car Free Event on Kings Road in partnership with the Cadogan Estates. As part of the event, a 200m section of road was closed to have the Christmas light switch on as well as a market and fireworks. Initial data is indicating that there were good air quality improvements as a result of the road closure.
The Healthy Streets Everyday Programme has helped to part fund Dr Bike sessions in partnership with the Cadogan Estates. The Dr Bike sessions occur on the second Tuesday of each month on King’s Road, Duke of York Square, between Partridges and Jigsaw from 8am to 10am..
The Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) in Marylebone helped deliver cleaner air and a greener city.
The aim of the scheme is to reduce significantly the through traffic east of Wandsworth Bridge Road, including through Harwood Terrace, and improve bus journey times at the Bagleys Lane junction. The expectation is that traffic previously able to cut through to New Kings Road will be eliminated.

In September 2020, as part of the Coppermill Area Scheme and Quietway 2 (Cycleway 27) scheme, a bus gate (modal filter) was introduced on South Access Road. This means if you’re travelling by motorised vehicle to Low Hall Depot or to South Access recycling centre you will need to travel along Argall Avenue from Lea Bridge Road. The entrance from South Access Road will only be available to people walking or cycling.

This included free on-street walking and cycling activities such as cycle security marking and Dr Bike sessions, as well as led walks of the local area and live music.

Trial measures to reduce the amount of through-traffic using narrow residential streets in the East Greenwich area will be put in place on 24 September. The project is funded by the Department for Transport’s Active Travel Emergency Fund and should create quieter, safer streets.
Trial measures to reduce traffic in west Greenwich were implemented in August 2020. Residents living to the west of Greenwich Park, had raised concerns about excessive traffic and dangerous driving in the area. Narrow residential streets that were not designed to accommodate the current high volumes of traffic, along with vehicles driving on footpaths compelled us to take action. The LTN was removed on 25 February 2022 when the traffic order expired.
The Lewisham and Lee Green Low Traffc Neighbourhood (LTN) was first introduced in July 2020. At the time, in response to the pandemic, the Government was encouraging councils to urgently put measures like LTNs in place.
To reduce the amount of through traffic it will no longer be possible to drive through the neighbourhood. There will be five closures points that apply to all motor vehicles, except the emergency services. Motor vehicles can drive to the closure points shown on the map below, from one direction or the other, but cannot drive through. Every single property can still be accessed by motor vehicle.
As part of Lambeth's Covid-19 response, a low traffic neighbourhood was created in September in the Tulse Hill neighbourhood. Traffic barriers were installed that act as ‘modal filters’ (allowing cyclists and pedestrians to filter through but preventing motor vehicles). The project aims to reduce the number of vehicles cutting through the neighbourhood to make safer residential streets for walking and cycling. Since the implementation, we have been monitoring the scheme and are making ongoing improvements.
In the Railton neighbourhood we will be introducing "bus gates" in 3 locations (Atlantic Road, Marcus Garvey Way and Herne Place) and modal filters in 2 locations (Shakespeare Road and St Matthews Road).
In the Ferndale neighbourhood we will be introducing "modal filters" in 3 locations (Pulross Road, Concanon Road and Sandmere Road East) and sections of Tintern Street, Sandmere Road West and Trinity Gardens will be made one way with banned turns.
As part of Lambeth's response to the current pandemic a low traffic neighbourhood was created in early June in the Oval Triangle neighbourhood. Restrictions on motor traffic are being trialled to make the area access-only for motor vehicles.

The West Ealing South low traffic neighbourhood (LTN) that introduced in late August 2020 on an experimental basis. The trial ended early in May 2021 due to the decision by Hounslow council to close Swyncombe Avenue. As part of the feedback obtained during the consultation period, residents indicated support for the proposals in and around Dean’s Road and Montague Avenue (W7). Ealing Council invited local people and businesses in and around the area of Dean's Road and Montague Avenue to respond to a consultation on whether they support the reintroduction of the LTN on a permanent basis.

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has carried out streetscape improvements to Old Bethnal Green Road as part of their match funding contribution to Cross River Partnership’s Healthy Streets Everyday (HSE) Programme. The improvements were carried out as part of the boroughs Liveable Streets Programme, and included closing part of the road to vehicular traffic, installing a new segregated cycle lane, upgrading street lighting, installing CCTV, planting new trees and adding more greenery. The School Street was introduced in September 2020 using an experimental traffic order.

Cross River Partnership’s Healthy Streets Everyday (HSE) Programme has helped fund several Dr Bike sessions across London, including ones in The Royal Borough of Greenwich. The sessions aim to encourage people to get back on their bikes by helping with fixes and carrying out repairs.
To celebrate Clean Air Day on the 8th of October 2020, the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames launched an innovative addition to their air quality monitoring programme. As part of the borough’s fight against pollution, they decided to purchase small, wearable air quality monitoring devices to be used by the community. Cross River Partnership’s Healthy Streets Everyday (HSE) Programme funded 26 of these personal air quality monitoring devices.
The Ark is a community parklet located in Hither Green, Lewisham. Funded by Spin and built by Yes Make, the parklet aims to provide additional outdoor space for people using local shops, cafés and businesses, helping to encourage people to the high street and providing more space for social distancing. It also aims to allow the local community to have a sense of place. As a result, The Ark is a great example of a Parklet designed with the community in mind, and the HSE “Creating Parklets for Community and Business Resilience” guidance played an instrumental role in the early development stages.

The results of the consultation showed that 81% of respondents supported the scheme.
