National Park City Festival

The GLA, working with the partners including the National Park City Foundation, want to make London the world’s first National Park City. To reach this milestone they will be running their National Park City Festival from 20-28 July 2019, London’s largest free celebration of the outdoors, aimed at people of all ages. There will be a diverse range of fun activities from culture and health and fitness to wildlife, the environment and more. They will also be encouraging Londoners to discover new spaces and find fresh ways to get in touch with nature. 10th International Public Markets Conference

The 10th International Public Markets Conference takes place between June 6th-8th 2019. Bringing together over 300 public market leaders, advocates, and representatives from throughout the world, attendees will have the unique opportunity to experience first-hand the character and striking diversity of London’s market scene! The conference, hosted by the Mayor of London and Project for Public Spaces, will focus on inclusion, innovation, and the social and economic impacts of public markets. Final Clean Air Better Business Stakeholder Meeting

After six years of cross-borough, cross-sector working, CRP’s Clean Air Better Business programme (CABB) came to a close with a final stakeholder meeting on 3 April 2019.

CRP Partners from boroughs and BIDs heard from project Partners including Kings College London, The Northbank BID and Victoria BID, just how far business-led action has come since CABB began, and how CABB has supported that journey.

CABB Project Manager, Brendon Harper, launched a programme summary report, outlining the key outcomes and achievements of the Clean Air Better Business programme. The report can be accessed here.

Despite the completion of CABB, CRP-led partnership programmes continue to improve London’s air quality continue, including our 7-borough, Defra-funded Clean Air Villages programme.

Clean Air Better Business Summary Report

Over the past six years, Cross River Partnership’s Mayor’s Air Quality Funded ‘Clean Air Better Business’ programme has brought together central London boroughs, BIDs and businesses to support the business sector to reduce emissions and exposure to toxic air pollution.

A programme summary report, available here outlines the programme’s key achievements including:

1. Putting air quality firmly on the business agenda
2. Supporting businesses to reduce emissions from freight and servicing
3. Taking on the impact of growing e-commerce deliveries
4. Supporting business-led green infrastructure and healthy streets
5. Reducing exposure to toxic air pollution
6. Spreading the word that Clean Air is Better for Business

Air quality is now firmly on the business agenda, with BIDs, estates and individual businesses now leading action to clean London’s air while achieving commercial and CSR goals.

CRP continues to lead multi-borough, cross-sector programmes to improve air quality, with programmes such as Clean Air Villages taking lessons learnt from Clean Air Better Business to upscale action.

Zero and Low Emission Supplier Directory

CRP is excited to be launching a Zero and Low Emission Supplier Directory in April 2019. This will provide a platform to promote businesses making low or zero emission deliveries, such as those on foot, by bike or using electric/hybrid vehicles.

The directory will be available online for anyone wishing to find suppliers who are committed to minimising pollution on our streets. We are currently focussing on businesses that deliver within five identified air pollution hotspots as part of the Clean Air Villages project.

Camden Ability – Update

CRP’s CamdenAbility project works with a network of local employers to improve disability standards and create opportunities for Camden residents with disabilities and long-term health conditions. The project is funded by Camden Council and delivered in partnership with Business Disability Forum.

CamdenAbility is working with over 30 cross sector organisations, including local government, education, media and art, science and research, hospitality and a number of disability charities based in and around Camden.

Since launching in February 2017, CamdenAbility has supported our members to create, recruit, and sustain local disabled talent.

Organisations such as Caterlink, Apleona, The Francis Crick Institute, The Alan Turing Institute and The Camden Society have all successfully recruited candidates through the project.

We have also created numerous unpaid opportunities to support our candidates to gain experience, improve their skills and grow in confidence to progress towards employment.

Camden Council, Mott Macdonald, UCL, Waitrose, Mind and The Francis Crick institute and are just some of our members working with the project to create work experience opportunities.

Over the next few months, CamdenAbility will continue to create fantastic opportunities for our candidates.  Some of these will include working with Tottenham Hotspurs Foundation to recruit disabled candidates for roles at their new stadium, construction site tours with Laing O’Rourke, a summer internship at the Wellcome Trust, more work experience placements at UCL and Camden Council and interview training with Matrix SCM.

MLEN – Update

CRP has been pleased to programme manage the Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) on behalf of  Westminster City Council and partners since August 2017, following their successful bid to the Mayor of London’s Mayor’s Air Quality Fund in 2016.

Coming to a close in March 2019, the LEN has delivered urban realm improvements, building efficiency audits, anti-idling driver engagement, an emissions-based parking surcharge, a multi-year schools engagement programme, and deliveries and servicing improvements with businesses, as well as smaller complementary behaviour change and community engagement initiatives. The Marylebone LEN successfully brought together partners from the local community as well as the private sector to harness the strength of partnership working.

CLSRTP – Update

The past year has been an eventful one for the Central London Sub-Regional Transport Partnership. Lots has been achieved on behalf of the boroughs including:

  • Support for cycle repair and water refill stations
  • Support of the Central London Freight Quality Partnership
  • Electricity grid capacity assessment for borough depots
  • Review of Zero Harm best practice
  • Study on support for cycle logistics
  • Research on innovations in funding for transport

The partnership has also grown this year, welcoming transport officers from the London Boroughs of Hackney and Lewisham, bringing the total to ten boroughs. This further increases the opportunities for knowledge-sharing and collaboration, and we look forward to working with all boroughs over the next 12 months.

Recruit London Update

Cross River Partnership’s (CRP) flagship Recruit London programme is coming to an end on 31 March 2019, after 9 years of delivery supporting 3,123 long term unemployed residents into jobs.

The Recruit London service will be delivered by Westminster Employment Service colleagues from 1 April 2019.

Recruit London would like to thank all of the funders, referral agencies and businesses that we have supported and engaged with over the years, including Westminster City Council, The Crown Estate, Heart of London Business Alliance, the Department for Work and Pensions, and Capital and Counties.

The Recruit London team is working closely with our Westminster Employment Service colleagues to hand over contacts and ensure a smooth and seamless transition.

The Recruit London team has continued to support workless residents into jobs while looking for new jobs themselves!  Four of the team have already secured jobs with Recruit London partner organisations, and we are confident that the rest of the team will also go onto amazing things!  Thank you to all of the Recruit London team for all of the results they have delivered with and for Westminster families over recent years.

Recruit London is hosting a small reception to thank all of those who have been involved with the programme on 27 March, from 5pm – 7pm.  Do get in touch if you have not already received an invitation and would like one.
