CamdenAbility – Disability Confident

25th February 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

The CRP-delivered CamdenAbility project works with a network of local employers to improve disability standards and create opportunities for Camden residents with disabilities and long-term health conditions. The project is funded by Camden Council and delivered in partnership with the Business Disability Forum.

As part of our commitment to improve disability standards of our members, CamdenAbility facilitates regular network meetings, creating a comprehensive and informative forum for businesses to come together to discuss disability initiatives, share best practice, hear from disability specialist guest speakers and receive updates on the project.

CamdenAbility member Dentsu Aegis will kindly host our first meeting of 2019 at their fantastic offices in Euston on the 28th of February.

Our members have requested our help to advise and support them to find out more about how to progress on the Disability Confident Initiative. We will be dedicating much of our next meeting on supporting them to work towards Disability Confidence, particularly on how to attain the harder to achieve Level 2 and Level 3 certifications.

Disability confident organisations play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. The scheme helps employers draw from the widest possible pool of talent and demonstrate a commitment to equality and inclusion.

Clean Air Villages – Shared EV’s in Brixton

25th February 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Solutions that will improve local air quality in each village area are currently being implemented for the Clean Air Villages project.

In Brixton, the plan is to provide a shared electric van for local businesses to use. The aims of the pilot are to give local businesses the opportunity to have access to a free (or very low cost) shared van and to experience using an electric vehicle.  The hope is that businesses will see the benefit of using a shared van for their operations, rather than owning their own vehicle, which could result in fewer vehicles on the road.  Businesses will also gain an insight into the simplicity and benefits of driving and charging an electric vehicle.  Adapting to new technology can be a significant barrier to change and so this pilot will aim to break down such barriers.

The Clean Air Villages project is Defra-funded and CRP is working on behalf of the London Borough of Lambeth in partnership with the London Boroughs of Hammersmith and FulhamIslingtonKensington and Chelsea, and Lewisham, to reduce emissions from business deliveries and servicing at 10 air quality hotspot villages across the 5 boroughs.

For further information, please contact CRP’s Business Engagement Officer, Kate Fenton.

Visit to ARUP’s SoundLab

25th February 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP’s Deliver London team visited ARUP’s SoundLab for a demonstration of their visualisation tool which allows clients to experience projects in development, and helps ARUP’s project team realise better results. We saw 2D drawings morph into 3D animations with accompanying sound, including ambient noise, and explored virtual spaces which allows us a user’s perspective of projects still in the design phase.

Seeing High Speed Two brought to life or “puffs” of air pollution hotspots across central London easily facilitated a constructive conversation between the CRP team and our hosts from ARUP and helped us appreciate how new technologies are changing project management.

Recruit London – Success at M&S

25th February 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

AF was seeking full-time employment as he had been out of work. He was anxious about the economic state of his family as he had young children and aging parents he was responsible for.

He came to Chika Anyanwu and Recruit London via the Westminster Employment Service Coach Glenroy Anderson. He was screened for Veolia, attended the office for interview but at the last minute felt it was not right for him and he was not interviewed.

We were exploring brokering with M&S who largely recruit through preferred agencies. We decided to use AF as a pilot candidate. AF applied via the website and was coached through interviewing. He was made to practice responding to questions, speaking clearly and making clear points in mock scenarios with Maria Anastasi (our Administration Support Assistant) acting as employer.

He was delighted to receive an interview date and we contacted Suited and Booted to supply his interview clothes.

AF was successful at interview! He was speechless at the support provided, the speed with which he moved into a job that fitted perfectly around his family circumstances and very chuffed at the interview outfit.

Recruit London – Success at Nando’s

25th February 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Suede is a 17 year old care leaver who was sent to Recruit London for support into employment. He was about to start living independently and his advisor felt that he would benefit financially and emotionally from a part-time job.

Recruit London’s Specialist Workplace Coordinator Michaella Jackson supported Suede into a job at Nando’s in Covent Garden. Suede had previously found it difficult to find work due to a lack of experience. This was extremely exciting as this was his first ever job.

Michaella has been vigilant in mentoring Suede to ensure that he stays in employment by conducting weekly in touch service calls, that have in time become light touch calls.

Nando’s are extremely happy to have Suede as part of their team and have expressed that he has the potential to be promoted.

For more information, please contact Michaella Jackson.

Recruit London – Case Study

16th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Sophia had recently arrived in the UK from Germany where she had run her own makeup business but had to migrate for personal reasons. She was referred to Recruit London.

Sophie had various experience in customer service but was uneasy about working in London.  Her support session consisted of business intel, world class customer service expectation, making clear to her that what she did in Germany was exactly what she would be expected to do in the UK. She was put forward for interview and was successfully employed as a customer service assistant at Accessorize in The Strand, Westminster.

Makeala, the Store Manager, speaks highly of Sophia and how she has become a valuable member of the team particularly during the busiest trading period of the year. Accessorize are in the process of exploring offering a permanent post due to her hard work and integration into the existing team, as her position was originally as a Christmas Temp.

For more information or to refer clients to our vacancies at Recruit London, please contact CRP Workplace Coordinator Brian Haley at brianhaley@crossriverpartnership.org.
