CALL’s Final Month

30th June 2023 / Posted by Fiona Coull

It’s the final month of CRP’s Clean Air Logistics for London (CALL) Programme and CRP has been as busy as ever! Here’s a quick overview of what we’ve been up to this month:

  • We’ve been working on an event to celebrate the launch of The London Light Freight Walking Trial. As part of this, there is an opportunity for businesses in the local area to see the e-walker in action and hear about how to get involved in the trial.
  • This month the third drop was successfully completed as part of CRP’s ‘River Freight Pilot – Part 2‘. A Q&A session was recorded to help businesses understand how they can get involved.
  • The second month of data has been provided for the Westminster City Council Micro Logistics Hub trial. We will be sharing these in a final report once the trial is complete.
  • The retrofit of ‘The Albert’ (to make the vessel fully electric) is also nearing completion and the vessel has been renamed to Alb-E.
  • We have also sent out a RFP for a courier to occupy an urban logistics hub in Wandsworth at the Southside Shopping Centre. This will be delivered in a similar way to the hub with Westminster City Council and learnings will be shared as part of CRP’s Smarter Greener Logistics (SGL) Programme.
  • Several reports and models have also been commissioned in relation to the Waterloo Freight Hub. These are designed to show the impact of a freight hub at Waterloo station and highlight the economic, environmental and social benefits that this would bring to the local area and London more widely.

Clean Air Week Events

29th June 2023 / Posted by Ross Phillips

CRP organised a Clean Air Week this month, to give clean air the required prominence it deserves!

  • On 8th June, CRP hosted a workshop on Delivering micro logistics hubs: learnings, barriers and future opportunities. This supported local authority and BID officers with identifying challenges and solutions to implement micro logistics hubs in their area.
  • On 15th June on Clean Air Day, CRP hosted a site visit of Pedal Me’s headquarters in London Borough of Southwark to show local authority and BID officers and decision-makers what spaces and considerations will be required when setting up these projects in the future. Pedal Me have been critical in the success of our Clean Air Freight programme, and we are delighted they could host us on Clean Air Day.
  • On Clean Air Day, CRP also produced How to Support a Micro Logistics Hub in your Borough: A Guide for Local Authorities. This is a step-by-step timeline of the stakeholders, processes, complexities, considerations and opportunities for setting up a micro-logistics hub on underutilised land in boroughs across London and even the UK.

EV Charge Points and Shared Vans for South Lambeth Businesses

29th June 2023 / Posted by Sefinat Otaru

CRP is working with Lambeth Council to make zero and low-emission transport more accessible to businesses in Streatham and West Norwood, as part of our Defra-funded programme Clean Air Logistics for London (CALL).

Lambeth Council has installed to new charge points in West Norwood on Norwood High Street and Knight’s Hill. The charge points are on each side of St. Luke’s Parish Church which sits between both streets. In the coming weeks, Lambeth will also install charge points convenient for businesses along Streatham High Road to use.

Following the successful shared electric van scheme for businesses implemented in Brixton four years ago, Lambeth will be creating a similar scheme this summer with shared electric vans for West Norwood and Streatham businesses.

CRP spoke with businesses in West Norwood about the charge point installations and the upcoming shared van scheme. Some businesses welcomed the news as they wanted a backup to their current means of transport. Others weren’t sure they would have a use for the shared vans but looked forward to having the scheme in place anyway. Interestingly, none of the businesses we spoke to felt that it would be useful during the ULEZ expansion as they had already prepared for it.

Southwark Parcel Locker: Launching Soon

29th June 2023 / Posted by Isidora Rivera Vollmer

We are excited to introduce a new parcel locker at the Dock Office near South Dock Marina on Monday 3rd July, in collaboration with the London Borough of Southwark and YEEP! Lockers, as part of CRP’s Defra-funded Clean Air Logistics for London project.

The parcel locker, including a customised Transport for London Legible London map, will be located at the South Lock Control Office (what3words location: camera.fairly.voter), near Greenland (Surrey Quays) Pier. This ‘Yeep!’ agnostic parcel locker will aim to encourage active travel and low-emission deliveries to Marina residents as well as the surrounding area 🚶🚴

This parcel locker will also be supporting potential river freight opportunities, due its close proximity to Greenland (Surrey Quays) Pier, a pier which CRP identified as a good opportunity for future river freight services 🚢
