Central London Sub-Regional Transport Partnership (CLSRTP) Update

15th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

As part of the Central London Sub-Regional Transport Partnership (CLSRTP) 2018/19 programme, CRP has been working with partners on a range of useful projects.

These include:

  • A study evaluating best practice in cycle logistics. The study will also examine how central London boroughs can use cycle logistics more.
  • Installing dual purpose cycle stations within CLSRTP boroughs which feature cycle repair and water refill facilities.

These and other CLSRTP projects will continue to support cross-sector partnership working and the sharing of information across 10 central London boroughs and beyond.

CRP is very pleased to have been awarded funding for CLSRTP 2019/20 – thank you to TfL!

CAV Next Steps

14th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

As 2018 came to a close, CRP met with all five boroughs who are partnered on the Clean Air Villages project to discuss the local recommendations for each village.  Local solutions vary: from the creation of low and zero emission directories, to consolidation of laundry for hotels, to shared electric vehicles for local businesses.  CRP are now working towards the implementation of these local solutions and are working on the strategies for calculating the impact of this on local air quality.

The Clean Air Villages project is Defra-funded and CRP is working on behalf of the London Borough of Lambeth in partnership with the London Boroughs of Hammersmith and FulhamIslingtonKensington and Chelsea, and Lewisham, to reduce emissions from business deliveries and servicing at 10 air quality hotspot villages across the 5 boroughs.

For further information, please contact CRP’s Business Engagement Officer, Kate Fenton.

Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood: Greening for Air Quality

14th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

The Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) was established after a successful bid by Westminster City Council to the Mayor of London’s Mayor’s Air Quality Fund in 2016, to tackle the challenge of air pollution in innovative ways. Since August 2017 CRP has been pleased to programme manage the LEN on behalf of the council.

2019 promises to be an exciting time for all involved in the LEN, as alongside celebrating the successes and lessons from the behaviour change projects, plans for the urban realm will come to fruition.

Designs have been developed with input from local stakeholders, focussed on improving amenity for walking around the Marylebone High Street and Paddington Street areas, linking green spaces, and introducing pockets of new green space. Two brand new zebra crossings will be introduced, along with over a dozen new street trees and a host of other low-level plants suited to pollution absorption and supporting wildlife. Details of the designs and rationale are available on the Marylebone LEN website and construction is due to start this month, bringing a new feature and vibrancy to this locally-treasured part of central London.

Specialist Case Study

Meheret – Trainee Assistant Engineer

Meheret was referred to Michaella Jackson, Recruit London’s Specialist Workplace Coordinator from the Westminster Employment Service.

Meheret arrived in the UK as an unaccompanied minor and was taken into the care of social services. She was looked after for 8 years right through to the completion of her degree in Civil Engineering.

Initially, Michaella set out an action plan as to how she would support Meheret into Full time employment. Previous experience was discussed and a session in CV tailoring helped to amend and update her CV. A job opportunity through our construction brokerage with Keltbray for a Trainee Assistant Engineer was advertised. Michaella identified that the opportunity suited Meheret’s skill set perfectly. Michaella then got in contact with Keltbray and sent over the amended CV and a good, detailed covering letter.  Michaella then followed up with sessions on interview preparation and how to use the STAR method when structuring and answering questions at interview and well as sessions to help with confidence building which Meheret found extremely helpful as it was something that she struggled with in the past. Michaella also arranged both the telephone and 2 stage interviews process with the employer and ensured that she kept the employer informed regarding the CSCS course progress.

Meheret interviewed successfully and now works in fulltime employment at Keltbray as an Assistant Engineer. This is a position that Meheret acknowledges that she would not have sourced and gotten without the support of Recruit London.

For further details please contact Recruit London’s Michaella Jackson.

Smart Electric Urban Logistics – Dissemination Event

On 6th February 2019, CRP and project partners UPS and UK Power Networks are inviting fleet managers to a SEUL project presentation and interactive workshop.

UPS vehicle 2

The Smart Electric Urban Logistics (SEUL) project is supporting the wider transition to electric vehicles for larger commercial fleets. The project is successfully trialling smart charging technology integrating energy storage and is also developing an innovative tool to better assess and use existing grid capacity.

Following short introductory presentations from CRP, UPS and UKPN, attendees will break into two workshop groups to discuss the issues in more detail. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and consider how freight electrification and smart charging can benefit businesses.

The Smart Electric Urban Logistics project is part of the Low Emission Freight and Logistics Trials, funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) in partnership with Innovate UK. For more information, please see the project webpage here or contact CRP’s Programme Manager Electric Freight Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer.

Mayor’s Air Quality Fund

14th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP has developed and submitted two cross-sector, multi-borough applications to the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund:
Clean Air Thames – to shift freight off road and on to river vessels retro-fitted to reduce emissions.
Healthy Streets Everyday – to deliver pedestrian-priority healthy streets and car-free events across 16 boroughs.

If successfully funded, both collaborative, CRP-led projects would build on the emission reductions and behaviour change to be delivered under the Mayor’s Ultra Low Emission Zone coming into force in April 2019.

Please contact CRP’s Tanja or Brendon for more information.
