Pedal Me School Runs

21st February 2022 / Posted by CRP Team

Cargo bike school runs are becoming increasingly common in the UK. Infrastructure such as segregated cycle lanes and LTNs have made the cargo bike school run more viable.

Pedal Me are running an innovative cargo bike to school scheme and are looking for schools to take part! They transport unaccompanied children to school via cargo bike. Parents can track their children in real time and the riders are also trained by a programme that has ‘assured’ status by City and Guilds and fully DBS checked. Routes are plotted for safety for up to three children.

Decarbonising the school-run has never been more important. 30% of morning traffic is for the school run in London, even though distances can be walkable. Cargo bikes are fun, innovative and have been proven to work in other European countries with similar city densities and weather patterns.

Decarbonising the school-run benefits everybody! Get in touch with Pedal Me below to enquire today.

Celebrate World Wildlife Day!

21st February 2022 / Posted by CRP Team

Thursday 3rd March marks World Wildlife Day (WWD)!

WWD is all about celebrating and raising awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. 2022’s theme is “recovering key species for ecosystem restoration”. The celebrations will seek to draw attention to the conservation status of some of the most critically endangered species of wild fauna and flora and to drive discussions towards imagining and implementing solutions to conserve them.

For inspiration on how to introduce more wildlife into cities, take a look at the Healthy Streets Everyday ‘Greening out the Grey’ report!

#HealthyStreetsStories

21st February 2022 / Posted by Fiona Coull

After three years, the Healthy Streets Everyday programme is reaching its end. CRP is proud of the amazing things the programme has achieved since 2019!

Healthy Streets Everyday is a cross-sector project that empowers boroughs, businesses and communities across London to deliver pedestrian-priority healthy streets, increase walking rates and reduce emissions and exposure to toxic air pollution. It aims to make London a healthier, greener, safer, livelier, and a more pleasant place to live and work.

To celebrate all the work that CRP and the 28 partners have accomplished, we will be launching a month-long social media campaign. Through photos, videos, and audio clips, we will be showcasing inspiring success stories, or as we call them, #HealthyStreetsStories!

Welcome Suhad!

Suhad Curran reflects on her time at CRP so far!

Joining CRP whilst also doing a part-time Masters in Climate Change at Kings College London has been extremely rewarding.

I am particularly interested in how cities can adapt and change to address ever-growing sustainability challenges. Working on projects such as the Brixton and Kensington micro consolidation hubs to support a zero-emission courier service has shown me how small changes can have a huge impact on localised air quality and traffic congestion.

I have also been involved in the Central London Sub-Regional Transport Partnership Vision Zero project, which aims to provide recommendations and examples of best practices towards London’s ambition of achieving Vision Zero. Collaborating with Oslo, who have already achieved this, has been fascinating.

I am thrilled to be part of such a welcoming, engaging, and inspiring team and I look forward to focusing more on London’s sustainability and air quality.

Zero Emission Deliveries to Clean Up Brixton’s Air

21st February 2022 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP is working with London Borough of Lambeth and Brixton BID to offer local businesses the opportunity to join an innovative trial to reduce pollution in Brixton, through the Clean Air Villages 4 project.

We are setting up a micro-consolidation hub within a 30 minute cycle from Brixton. This micro-consolidation will act as a final step in the logistics process, receiving deliveries from many different couriers and suppliers, before being delivered in the last-mile on electric cargo bike, instead of polluting vehicles.

As we’re all receiving more deliveries, we’re seeing more vans on our roads, more congestion and more harmful pollution. Our project provides zero-cost, zero-hassle, and zero-emission delivery options for local businesses.

If you are a business in Brixton and you would like to participate, please email CRP Project Officer Jack Alexander.

International Day of Action for Rivers

21st February 2022 / Posted by Sefinat Otaru

Monday 14th March is the International Day of Action for Rivers. Communities worldwide gather to protect and celebrate rivers by holding river clean-ups, walks, educational talks, etc.

The Thames is culturally, commercially and environmentally significant. There are ongoing projects to protect these aspects of the river, including CRP’s Clean Air Thames project. The project is now winding down after three years. Clean Air Thames aims to explore less expensive retrofitting options for greening vessels on the Thames. Working with GPS Marine Contractors and the Port of London Authority, we look forward to seeing how effectively the retrofits have reduced emissions.

Helping river operators navigate greening their vessels, thereby improving the air quality along with the river, is what the International Day of Action for Rivers is about: making rivers a pleasant place to live, work and play.
