CRP celebrates World Car Free Day 22nd Sept

29th September 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

Cross River Partnership celebrated World Car Free Day on 22nd Sept with a Community Green Street on Luxborough Street in the Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood.

The car free theme started from ensuring that items for the green streets were delivered using a zero or low emission method. The street was turned into a green street complete with parklets, trees, electric bikes and a pop-up gym.

For our green fingered visitors there were planters available to plant some air quality friendly plants, with some games such as a giant chess board for entertainment. It wasn’t just all fun and games, we also used the opportunity to raise awareness and allow visitors to learn more about what a Low Emission Neighbourhood is and the plans for Marylebone.

It was great to see so many of our partners also promoting action on the day.

See our Storify for a selection of tweets and actions taken by CRP and partners.

20th September 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

RW_Badge_2014

Taking place between 25 September and 1 October, Heart of London is running a competition for businesses to showcase reducing waste and recycling. Entries will be tweeting pledges, or sending photos of recycling in action using the handle @HOLBID and #RecycleWeek. The winner will be announced in the following week and receive Heart of London goodie bags for up to five employees.

Heart of London are also hoping to confirm their chosen preferred supplier by National Recycling Week and use the opportunity to promote sign up to the supplier. This supplier will be offering businesses preferential BID discounts for recycling and have a proposal to service the BID area in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way possible as well as promoting collections to reduce visible waste on the street. This initiative will help cut waste management costs and in turn, assist in the reduction of vehicle numbers on the roads, improve air quality and tackle congestion.

You don’t have to be a business to take part in National Recycling Week, share your tweets with us!

Albert and Recruit London

18th September 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

albert1 edit

Albert, aged 49 is a Westminster resident who was unemployed for over 9 years before being supported into employment as a Street Patroller and Litter Picker at Leicester Square’s McDonalds by Sylvia Kankasa (Specialist Workplace Coordinator at Recruit London) and Nikoletta Gjergji (Project Support Assistant at Recruit London). Albert was referred by Stella from CNWL.

Albert had been volunteering once a week with Action for Hearing Loss at a homeless shelter for 2 years. Albert is deaf so he finds volunteering very rewarding however, he wanted to start earning an income and so, Sylvia spoke to Albert regarding his needs and requirements and negotiated with McDonalds to open up a bespoke role for him. Well done Albert!
