Recruit London Candidate Job Start

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

Nikoletta (Nikki) Gjergji, Recruit London’s Specialist Workplace Coordinator, has been providing ongoing employment support to Westminster resident Meera since April. Meera has been unemployed due to health issues for over 2 years. With Nikki’s support, Meera is now employed as a Ceremonies Usher at the Old Marylebone Town Hall.

Meera Main: I have found Nikoletta to be very supportive. Nikki has been considerate of the fact that I have been out of work a long time and was determined to find me a nice job within a good establishment where I can build on my confidence, grow, develop and learn.

With Nikki’s support, I have secured a job in a lovely environment with exceptionally wonderful people. I am enjoying every minute of my new job and the experiences I am having.

I would most definitely recommend the service Nikki provides to all my friends and family!”

Rocky Akbar, Senior Usher: “Meera is an eager, enthusiastic young woman. She is great at communicating face to face and more Impressively via the walkie talkies we use – many people are intimidated by those but Meera has taken to them like a duck to water! She is shy but I can see every time I work with her she is growing in confidence. She listens and is eager to learn more. Thank you to Nikki – Recruit London for your support!”

SEUL in Motion – A Review of 2018

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

The Smart Electric Urban Logistics (SEUL) project has seen a huge amount of progress in 2018, with the project now clearly demonstrating the technical capabilities of the smart charging system which has been deployed at global logistics company UPS’s Kentish Town depot serving central London. The smart charging system went live back in March and operates in a business as usual environment. All of the project’s additional 20 electric vehicle conversions have also been completed this year, and are already providing real-world data as part of the Low Emission Freight and Logistics Trial.

UPS welcomed London Deputy Mayor for Environment, Shirley Rodrigues, as well as Global Action Plan and other guests to the Kentish Town depot in June as part of a sustainability event around Clean Air Day, showing the strong interest in this innovative project.

CRP are looking forward to continue the great work with UPS and project partner UK Power Networks in 2019.

For more information, please see the project webpage or contact CRP’s Programme Manager Electric Freight Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer.

Cycle Logistics Study

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

On behalf of the Central London Sub-Regional Transport Partnership, CRP have commissioned a study to establish a baseline of current best practice in the use of cargo cycles and light electric vehicles for city centre freight, transport and logistics applications. The work will also consider the opportunities and challenges for expanding their adoption in central London.

With the upcoming introduction of the Ultra Low Emission Zone in London, and the new strategic aims announced in the new Mayor’s Transport Strategy for improving efficiency of freight and reducing its impact on the street environment, there is growing interest in the use of cycles and light electric vehicles (battery, hybrid-powered 2/3 wheelers e.g. electric cargo bikes and tricycles/quads etc.) for last mile and inner city logistics applications. The low carbon consultancy Element Energy has been appointed to undertake this work and will provide a final report by the end of March 2019.

CamdenAbility – Disability Network Meeting

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

CamdenAbility held an extremely popular employer network meeting this month. The event was hosted at the Alan Turing Institute, who were in attendance alongside other members of the CamdenAbility network, such as Camden Council, Matrix SCM, HS2 and Tottenham Hotspurs foundation.

Also in attendance were guest speakers from Leonard Cheshire and Mind, who spoke about their projects for disabled job seekers, and the Royal National Institute for Blind People, who delivered a very practical presentation showcasing the use of everyday technology to support people with blindness.

After what has already been a really busy year for CamdenAbility, the project will end the year with a flourish with its final event on the 18th of December, incorporating a site tour, a network meeting and a ‘meet the candidates’ event.

CamdenAbility is delivered in partnership with the Business Disability Forum and funded by Camden Council.  The project works with a network of local employers to improve disability standards and create opportunities for Camden residents with disabilities and long term health conditions.

Recruit London and Joint Working

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

As part of CRP’s Recruit London team, my role is to support unemployed Westminster residents with disabilities into employment, thus match the jobs that we generate to candidates looking for work.

I lead on meeting candidates from Marylebone DWP, where I sit 1 day a week.  I meet new signings to Universal Credit as well as other benefit claimants that are deemed ready to return to work.  I firstly meet the candidates in a team, where I tell them about our service and then meet them individually for an initial advice and guidance session. I sign up the candidates that fit my remit while feeding the rest to the wider Recruit London team.

In addition, I lead on joint working with The Regeneration Base team on Church Street, which is part of the Westminster Employment Service (WES).  Joint work involves working closely with the WES coaches by supporting the job brokerage side of the process.

In the month of November, I am happy to report that I

  • Registered 15 unemployed residents, 6 of who I will be supporting with
  • Secured 1 job start; and
  • Am waiting to hear from 2 interviews and 4 potential job starts in the pipeline.

For more information please get in contact with Michaella Jackson.
