TfL Freight Forum

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP was pleased to attend a lively TfL Freight Forum earlier this week, hosted by the City of London Corporation. The annual forum brings together freight and logistics operators, business groups, boroughs and TfL to discuss all things freight in London.

This year’s forum focussed on the Mayor’s Vision Zero and TfL’s Freight Action Plan, which will be launched in the new year. CRP has contributed to the development of the Plan through membership on TfL’s Freight Policy Advisory Panel and Freight External Partners Group.

  • 27 receiving interim support; a reflection of the increased number of long term unemployed on our caseloads;
  • 31 job starts; and
  • 1 job sustained for six months, with more to come as we wait for evidence for sustained numbers.

On average, employers in the West End will spend upwards of £3,000 per person on recruitment; including HR recruitment time, different stages of interviews and inductions. Capital Arches Group Opportunities

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

Capital Arches Group Ltd have strongly supported CRP’s partnership Recruit London initiative by offering employment opportunities to many Westminster residents across all of their McDonald’s Restaurants. We have organised regular recruitment open days which has enabled local job seekers to visit the restaurant and learn more about the local business. This gave the candidates the opportunity to improve their interview performance, boosted their confidence and enhanced their job prospects. Through our partnership we have been able to place over 33 people into employment with very good success stories. The employer is very accommodating to those with mental and physical disabilities and supports individuals to develop the key skills, sustain employment and progress further within their career. This has proven invaluable to us and those facing long-term unemployment. We look forward to continue working with Capital Arches Group Ltd in 2019.

Carolina Costa Kanwar, Head of Operations Support at Capital Arches Group Ltd:

“The recruitment service from Recruit London is fantastic and the team is always very helpful and supportive. Ilona has visited us a few times and she has a real understanding of our business and our hiring needs and has helped us to recruit a number of residents across many of our restaurants.”

Clean Air Villages – Workshops Completed

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

The Clean Air Villages project continues and CRP are pleased to report that a total of 20 Air Quality seminars have been completed, 2 in each village. The seminars were an opportunity for local businesses to come and discuss local issues about deliveries and servicing and to find out about ways in which they could save time and money whilst also improving local air quality.  With business attendees ranging from sole traders to national chains, and with help from local Councillors, CRP has built up a picture of each local village and their individual issues.  CRP is in the process of meeting with each borough to brainstorm over the local recommendations which will be made and implemented within each village.  Meetings with Lambeth and Islington have already taken place.  Meetings with Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Lewisham are due to take place in the coming weeks.

CRP are continuing with 121 business engagement across all five boroughs.  As we move into 2019, the village solutions will be put into action and CRP will be hard at work producing case studies.

For further information, please contact CRP’s Business Engagement Officer, Kate Fenton.

Recruit London Candidate Job Start

Nikoletta (Nikki) Gjergji, Recruit London’s Specialist Workplace Coordinator, has been providing ongoing employment support to Westminster resident Meera since April. Meera has been unemployed due to health issues for over 2 years. With Nikki’s support, Meera is now employed as a Ceremonies Usher at the Old Marylebone Town Hall.

Meera Main: I have found Nikoletta to be very supportive. Nikki has been considerate of the fact that I have been out of work a long time and was determined to find me a nice job within a good establishment where I can build on my confidence, grow, develop and learn.

With Nikki’s support, I have secured a job in a lovely environment with exceptionally wonderful people. I am enjoying every minute of my new job and the experiences I am having.

I would most definitely recommend the service Nikki provides to all my friends and family!”

Rocky Akbar, Senior Usher: “Meera is an eager, enthusiastic young woman. She is great at communicating face to face and more Impressively via the walkie talkies we use – many people are intimidated by those but Meera has taken to them like a duck to water! She is shy but I can see every time I work with her she is growing in confidence. She listens and is eager to learn more. Thank you to Nikki – Recruit London for your support!”

SEUL in Motion – A Review of 2018

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

The Smart Electric Urban Logistics (SEUL) project has seen a huge amount of progress in 2018, with the project now clearly demonstrating the technical capabilities of the smart charging system which has been deployed at global logistics company UPS’s Kentish Town depot serving central London. The smart charging system went live back in March and operates in a business as usual environment. All of the project’s additional 20 electric vehicle conversions have also been completed this year, and are already providing real-world data as part of the Low Emission Freight and Logistics Trial.

UPS welcomed London Deputy Mayor for Environment, Shirley Rodrigues, as well as Global Action Plan and other guests to the Kentish Town depot in June as part of a sustainability event around Clean Air Day, showing the strong interest in this innovative project.

CRP are looking forward to continue the great work with UPS and project partner UK Power Networks in 2019.

For more information, please see the project webpage or contact CRP’s Programme Manager Electric Freight Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer.
