Monitoring Euston Green Link

13th August 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Euston Green Link serves as a low exposure alternative to often congested and heavily polluted Euston Road for people cycling or walking between The Regent’s Park and Euston Station.

Over the past year, Euston Town has implemented a variety of measures including, most recently, a green wall at Drummond and Gower Streets to make the Link a pleasant route for pedestrians and cyclists.

In early August, CRP continued to support Euston Town BID by completing the second half of a monitoring exercise along the Link which runs along Longford Street and Drummond Street. CRP carried out before- and after- monitoring along the link to assess the impact of the BID’s interventions. This including active traveller counts and surveying passers-by about their impressions of the street.  The results of the exercise will be analysed and presented in a comprehensive report to the BID.

To learn more about the Green Link, visit https://eustontown.com/eustongreenlink.

CAV Conversations

13th August 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

The Clean Air Villages team are excited to be out and about engaging with businesses in the 13 village areas, identified across London as part of the DEFRA funded air quality project.

During the summer we will be visiting the villages to talk to businesses about their deliveries and servicing to support them in finding ways to reduce their impact on congestion and pollution.

We are looking to expand our Ultra-Low Emission Supplier Directory to all the areas, so that we can promote deliveries and services that are made using ultra-low emission vehicles! If you know of a business that could be on the directory contact us!

Lighting Strategy for central London at LoLEG conference

24th July 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP was delighted to be invited by the chair of the London Lighting Engineers Group (LoLEG) to share our plans to consult on a Lighting Strategy for central London at their annual conference at Chelsea Football Club.

The aim of the proposed strategy is to raise the ambition and value of lighting projects across central London, building on the interest generated by initiatives including The Illuminated River.

It is envisaged that the Lighting Strategy will include a review of best practice and a typology for central London, which will highlight the benefits of effective civic lighting to a wide range of public and private stakeholders. There are a number of potential positive impacts of lighting across art, culture, heritage, placemaking, accessibility, health and wellbeing, economic growth and public safety. Protecting and enhancing conditions for biodiversity can also be addressed by considerate lighting projects.

The strategy development will begin with a broad stakeholder engagement event, to be held on 25 September 2019, 11.30am – 2.30pm at the award-winning Coin Street Neighbourhood Centre SE1. Many thanks to CRP partner South Bank BID for arranging this award-winning venue: 2008 RIBA London Award.

The opening address will be given by Dr. Peter Bonfield OBE FREng Vice-Chancellor of the University of Westminster and from October 2019, President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Please get in touch with CRP’s Susannah Wilks if you would like to attend.

Future of London Tour

23rd July 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Future of London‘s Making the Most of London’s Waterways Conference took place on 20th June 2019.

The full-day conference brought together a cross-sector network to share practical approaches to enhancing waterways and waterside spaces as well as managing competing demands – with a view to highlighting lessons which can be applied individually or strategically across any city.

CRP’s Director Susannah Wilks and former CRP Director Dr. Savas Sivetidis also led a Thames Walkabout Tour during the conference highlighting how diversifying the use of waterways including public access and cultural amenities on private land, was all part of the masterplan when redeveloping the Southbank and More London Estate (London Bridge City).

Illuminated River Exhibition and Project Launch

23rd July 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP was honoured to attend the launch of the fantastic Illuminated River project on 17 July.  The first four of 15 Thames bridges were lit up by American artist Leo Villereal’s installations, including the Millennium Bridge, one of CRP’s flagship projects.

CRP has been extremely pleased to be advising the Illuminated River project right from the start.  We look forward to the lighting of the remaining 11 bridges, especially the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Bridges.

Well done to Sarah Gaventa and all of her team at the Illuminated River Foundation!

The full Illuminated River website can be found here.

There is an exhibition all about the Illuminated River project running at the City of London Corporation’s Guildhall Art Gallery.  The CRP team can highly recommend a visit.

London Awarded National Park City Status

23rd July 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

London is officially the world’s first National Park City. On 22 July, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan co-signed the London National Park City Charter which aims to make people, places and nature better connected in the capital. It is part of the Mayor’s plan for at least half the capital to be green by 2050.

Green spaces improve people’s sense of well-being, creating a space for relaxation and exercise, and can be a refuge from noise.  Trees and plants provide carbon storage and reduce the amount carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.  Read more about the benefits of urban greening in CRP’s Healthy Greening Report.

London’s National Park City Festival runs from 20 – 28 July 2019. It is an opportunity for people to discover London’s outdoor spaces, from parks to wildlife habitats to rooftop gardens.  It is also an opportunity for communities, organisations and experts to share their knowledge to make the city greener, healthier and wilder. Join one of the hundreds of events taking place around the city themed around community, culture, environment and wildlife, health and fitness and making London greener.
