Clean Air Villages 2 Event Launch

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

All project funders for the Clean Air Villages 2 project have been invited to attend a launch event on Friday 14th June.  CRP secured funding from DEFRA’s Air Quality Grant Scheme 2019/20.  The event will be hosted by the London Borough of Lewisham, who are the lead authority on the project.

Match-funding partners include the London Boroughs of Lewisham, Camden, Hammersmith and Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster City Council, Cadogan Estates and Euston Town BID.

The event will take place at the Honor Oak Park air quality supersite in Lewisham.

All seven participating London Boroughs have poor air quality. Delivery of goods and services is a major contributor to air pollution.  The Clean Air Villages 2 project will work with businesses to reduce their impact on local air quality.

Clean Air Villages 1 Business Case Studies

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

As the first year of the DEFRA-funded Clean Air Villages project has come to a close, CRP has been busy creating business case studies.  The ten case studies showcase an assortment of initiatives and organisations that are trialling or already doing great work to reduce the impact of their operations on local air quality, ranging from butchers in Brixton (London Borough of Lambeth) working together to consolidate their suppliers, to the Westway Trust (Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea) trialling e-cargo bikes for their last mile delivery.

The case studies provide valuable stories that CRP can use to inspire businesses and show them what they can do to improve air quality in the areas in which they operate.  These will be used as the Clean Air Villages project continues into its second year.

Funding Opportunity: Regenerating historic high streets – High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) programme

29th May 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

The Expression of Interest phase of the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) programme has been launched, and will close on Friday 12th July. The EoI stage is a competitive process, only successful applications will then be asked to develop a full programme design.  Applications will  be accepted from any not-for-profit organisation (e.g. local authorities, charitable trusts, or other public sector organisations) and partnerships led by not-for profit organisations who can demonstrate capacity to deliver. If an application does not have the support of the local authority it will not be accepted.

A Cultural Programme, which is being designed by the Historic England in partnership with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, must be embedded with the application.  This Programme will:

  • revitalise high streets through cultural programmes, bringing more people and a wider range of people, and new activity, to the heart of communities, and raising aspirations
  • support greater use of high streets and increase dwell time
  • support people and places to thrive through cultural engagement, creating greater pride, sense of community and wellbeing
  • support local organisations, communities and stakeholders to sustain the benefits of the programme in the future

Delivery of this Cultural Programme is expected to be by local arts and culture based groups and organisations. Click here for further information on how to apply.

CRP’s Ultra-Low Emission Supplier Directory Launches!

20th May 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

As part of the DEFRA-funded Clean Air Villages programme, CRP are excited to launch an online
Ultra-Low Emission Supplier Directory. The directory lists businesses in and around London that
deliver using vehicles that are ultra-low emission, from cargo bikes to electric vehicles, and it also
supports the Mayor of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone that came into effect in April.

Switching suppliers to those that use cleaner vehicles will improve air quality, a prominent issue as
over 9000 Londoners are dying prematurely yearly because of toxic air (Mayor of London). Working
with the London Boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Lewisham and Islington the directory has a
localised element for 5 ‘villages’ as part of the Clean Air Villages programme. These Air Quality Focus
Areas are Archway, Bunhill/Old Street, Fulham Town Centre, Deptford High Street and Lewisham
Town Centre. To be included in the directory, suppliers guaranteed they would deploy ultra-low
emission vehicles’ at least 80% of the time when delivering/collecting in the Clean Air Village
concerned.

Building on the success of the directory and Clean Air Villages, CRP looks forward to working with
the London Borough of Lewisham in partnership with the London Boroughs of Camden,
Hammersmith and Fulham, Lambeth, Wandsworth, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
and Westminster City Council, Cadogan Estates (landowners), and Euston Town BID on the Clean Air
Villages 2 project that was recently granted funding by DEFRA for 2019-20.

Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer, Principal Programme Manager at Cross River Partnership, believes the
directory is “an innovative tool that makes it easier for businesses, large or small, to do their bit
towards cleaning up London’s air. We hope to add more businesses and other villages into our
directory in the coming months.”

To search the directory please visit: https://crossriverpartnership.org/directory/.
