LeasePlan #StartElectric Event

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP recently attended the LeasePlan #StartElectric event at the Tesla offices at Park Royal in May. It was great to see how the transition of electrifying fleets has started and what were the triggers to a business changing over. This is the first time that the electric vehicle has become cheaper in the long term for a company car scheme than its popular diesel equivalent.

Now with the introduction of Clean Air Zones in London and around the UK it is the time for change! There were great visionaries on the panel who really want to change the system for the better!

CRP recently attended the London First-convened Central London BIDs Forum, on 22nd May 2019, to offer advice on Freight Consolidation potential activities.

The BIDs are already individually delivering different innovative freight vehicle reduction projects, many of which could be scaled up / rolled out in collaboration with other organisations.

CRP is already offering freight-related services such as Ultra-Low Emission Supplier Directories, Click. Collect. Clean Air and deliverBEST to its BID and borough partners.

SEUL Welcomes GLA Fleet Managers to UPS Depot

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

The Smart Electric Urban Logistics (SEUL) project recently welcomed fleet managers from across the Greater London Authority family to the UPS central London depot in Kentish Town, Camden.

Global parcel logistics firm UPS has developed an innovative system to charge its growing electric freight vehicle fleet without the need to further upgrade the local electricity capacity. The system comprises an Active Network Management system to control charging, coupled with an Energy Storage System with the capability to dynamically control the local demand.

The lessons from this project are highly applicable to growing EV fleets, including those in the public sector, where CRP uses its extensive experience in sharing best practice.

SEUL is a 2.5 year project led by UPS, with Cross River Partnership and UK Power Networks. The project is part of the Low Emission Freight and Logistics Trial, funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles in partnership with Innovate UK.

Vision Zero Guidance for Boroughs

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP have published a best practice and guidance report on actions for implementing vision zero in Central London, compiled by transport safety consultants Agilysis on behalf of the Central London Sub-Regional Transport Partnership (CLSRTP).

CRP hosted two interactive workshops for the 10 CLSRTP boroughs, led by Agilysis, where knowledge and experiences on topics such as compliance with safe speeds and safe street design were shared. The workshop discussions contributed to guidance for boroughs, alongside a review of international best practice.

The report is timely, as Transport for London (TfL) has recently launched a consultation on proposals for vision zero on TfL-controlled roads including introducing 20mph speed limits on all its roads within the Congestion Charging Zone.

The final report is now available to download from the CRP website.

CLSRTP study featured at the London Cycling and Walking Conference

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP has published a report on the potential of cycle logistics in central London, as part of our role co-ordinating the Central London Sub-Regional Transport Partnership (CLSRTP). The report was featured at the recent London Cycling and Walking Conference, jointly hosted by the London Borough of Hackney and City of London Corporation.

The study, carried out by Element Energy, examined what inner-city local authorities can do to support this growing phenomenon, which combats many of the negative externalities of freight activity. Engagement with customers, Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) the growing cycle logistics sector, and borough officers, led to recommendations that demonstrate the possibilities for collaboration with BIDs and others to target interventions to support the growth of cycle logistics.

Thank you to all those individuals and organisations who contributed to the study. We look forward to seeing many more innovative applications for cycling logistics in the near future.

The report is now available to download from the CRP website.

RBKC Draft Economic Strategy

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP recently provided feedback on the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea‘s draft Economic Strategy.  The three key themes of the strategy are: Skills and employment; Business and enterprise; and Planning and investment.  It prioritises creating productive partnerships and maximising current opportunities over construction-led growth. Consequently, RBKC wants to work with partners, business, the community and other relevant stakeholders to achieve its vision for the local economy.

CRP looks forward to contributing towards the Council’s efforts to enrich the economic, social and environmental well-being of RBKC’s residents, workers and visitors.

CRP goes drumming!

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP staff enjoyed an afternoon drumming on Tuesday 28th May.  The djembe drumming workshop was held at Westminster Music Library  and led by a professional drum player.

The CRP staff were taught how to play together to create melodious rhythms. The session was a great way to raise and promote mental health awareness.   Drumming can have huge benefits for health and well-being and has been promoted to staff by CRP’s lead accountable body,  Westminster City Council.

CamdenAbility Lifetime Achievements

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP’s CamdenAbility project comes to an end on the 28th of June.

Launched in February 2017, we have delivered the project for over 2 years and in that time achieved some fantastic results to improve the lives of local disabled job seekers.

Funded by Camden Council and delivered in partnership with Business Disability Forum, the project was tasked with improving disability standards with local businesses and creating opportunities for Camden residents with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

Some of our lifetime achievements include:

  • 36 jobs created
  • 32 Work experience placements
  • 11 Site tours
  • 21 Employment Workshops
  • 3 Reverse job fairs
  • 114 Disabled job seekers supported
  • 18 Disability workshops delivered for employers
  • 30 Local business signed up to our network

We held our final network meeting at one of our members, The Alan Turing Institute’s offices in June.  CamdenAbility network meetings are forums for our businesses to come together and share best practice around Disability and inclusion, learn about local disability schemes and receive updates on the progress of the project.

Our final network meeting was an opportunity to hold a ‘meet the employers session’, where our disabled jobseekers were given the chance to meet with our  network and discuss their job aspirations.

We also shared some of our findings over the past 2 years and recommendations on how to successfully recruit disabled talent.  Some of our recommendations include:

Be Flexible – Employers who are able to change and manipulate traditional recruitment practices have much better success in attracting and recruiting disabled job seekers

Bring others into the conversation – Promote inclusion and disability schemes to supply chains, contractors and vendors

Adjustments aren’t expensive – Most adjustments are very simple to implement and don’t require a financial outlay.

Recognising the benefits of hiring disabled staff – Hiring disabled staff isn’t a charitable act, disabled talent are a huge benefit to organisations on many levels.

Be creative – Removing barriers to employment sometimes takes unusual and creative approaches to the standard recruitment models.

We’re extremely proud of the success of the project and would like to thank our network, and particularly our funders Camden Council, and our project partners Business Disability Forum for their support and hard work on the project.
