West End Partnership Draft Freight Action Plan

21st November 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP is developing a draft Freight Plan for the West End, as part of our work on behalf of the West End Partnership.

CRP has commissioned former Head of Freight & Fleet at Transport for London, Ian Wainwright, to support the development of this draft plan, in consultation with key public, private and community stakeholders.

This framework of actions will help develop the West End’s status at the heart of a leading global city; with innovative approaches to deliveries and servicing that focus on ensuring the health and vibrancy of London in the context of Oxford Street’s Transformation.

Some actions will be immediate, providing quick wins that build on the great work that West End Partnership members are already delivering for residents, businesses and visitors.  Other, longer-term activities will deliver the next step change in reducing the numbers of deliveries and servicing vehicles in the West End.

The draft Freight Action Plan for the West End will be presented to the West End Partnership Board for comment and review.

Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood – Smarter Deliveries

21st November 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

paddington st

CRP is working to change behaviour and find efficiencies with businesses in the Marylebone Low Emissions Neighbourhood (LEN). Through better management of freight deliveries (including personal deliveries), we can reduce the number of freight movements throughout the Marylebone LEN.

To date, CRP has visited 138 businesses, with 30 businesses filling out the deliverBEST questionnaire, receiving recommendations and offers of further support.  Also, with Christmas fast approaching, CRP and the Marylebone LEN Business Improvement District partners are promoting the Click. Collect. Clean Air. website to encourage people to receive deliveries nearer home, making Marylebone a cleaner air neighbourhood this winter.

Waterloo Bus Garage Visit

21st November 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

20171106_112958

CRP’s Deliver London Team toured Go-Ahead London’s Waterloo Bus Garage recently to understand the requirements and operation of Europe’s largest fleet of fully electric buses. 46 electric buses operate from the Waterloo site on the 507 and 521 routes in Central London. The buses have now been operating for two years with an excellent running record, and feature service innovations such as USB charging points and audio-visual digital information screens with route maps and stop announcements.

To charge all 46 buses, the local electricity grid infrastructure needed to be upgraded. This is a costly and disruptive exercise that not many operators, whether of buses or freight fleets, will be able to pursue. The CRP Smart Electric Urban Logistics project is exploring ways to use existing infrastructure more efficiently and thereby reduce the need for future physical infrastructure upgrades.

CLSRTP, urban markets, and healthy streets

21st November 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

London’s first urban market focused delivery and servicing plans were delivered by the Central London Sub Regional Transport Partnership (CLSRTP) programme last year. CRP is now expanding on this innovative project by working with our partners to deliver on the actions identified.

We are excited to be in discussion with Islington Council and Angel BID to explore a waste oil consolidation project and Lambeth Council and We Are Waterloo BID to deliver a sustainable solution to disposable packaging.

The aim of the these schemes is to demonstrate a positive impact relating to deliveries and servicing. For example, a reduction in vehicle movements, congestion, local air quality improvement and improvement against TfL’s Healthy Streets indicators.

FREVUE wins LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Award

21st November 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

We are delighted to have won the LowCVP Low Carbon Road Transport Initiative of the Year Award for the FREVUE project.

The 4.5-year FREVUE (Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe) project that was finalised in September 2017 deployed 80 fully electric freight vehicles (EFVs) across a range of logistics operations in eight European cities. The vehicles ranged from car-derived vans of under 3.5 tonnes to highly innovative 18-tonne trucks. In London, 16 UPS diesel delivery trucks were converted to electric as part of the project and are still in operation today. In addition, Clipper Logistics deployed a 10-tonne delivery truck from the Regent’s Street consolidation centre in central London. The overall project was co-ordinated by CRP.

For more information, please contact the CRP FREVUE Co-ordinator, Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer,  see www.frevue.eu or follow the project on twitter @FREVUE_project.

Dear Editor

Support for Mayor’s new T-Charge

As business groups and local authorities based in and around central London we strongly welcome the introduction of T-charge on the 23rd October.

Air pollution is not only bad for our health, it’s bad for business. If we want to continue to attract and keep staff, investment, tourists, and major international conferences and events to London we need to address the air pollution crisis. Furthermore, by addressing this issue, and making London’s air cleaner and its environment more pleasant, we can give ourselves the edge over other world cities, which is even more important in the wake of Brexit.

The T-charge is the start of a step change in London that will be good for people and good for business. It’s just the beginning of the action that we need to see. We need to see the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in place and expanded as soon as possible, and we strongly welcome the Mayor of London’s proposal to introduce the ULEZ in April 2019, and to expand it shortly thereafter.

As business groups and local authorities we want to play our part in ensuring our staff and customers have a safe and healthy environment, and we welcome this leadership from the Mayor. We are also calling on the Government to step up and play their part. We need Government support for diesel scrappage to help small to medium sized businesses switch to ULEZ-compliant vehicles, and much better incentives need to be in place at the national level to support businesses in making the switch to zero emission vehicles.‎

We are looking forward to enjoying a cleaner healthier business environment in London – and this is something that we all need to play our part to achieve.

Yours sincerely,
Susannah Wilks
Director

Click. Collect. Clean Air.

6th October 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

With less than 3 months until Christmas many businesses can expect to see an increase in personal deliveries to their receptions and postrooms. CRP’s ‘Click. Collect. Clean Air’ behaviour change campaign is helping reduce this, saving businesses time and helping reduce delivery traffic and associated air pollution in central London.

This campaign is built around an interactive online guide (www.clickcollect.london) to the various ‘click and collect’ options available to people near their homes. Almost 20 of CRP’s partners have branded versions of the site and promotional materials and are encouraging employers to promote alternatives to their staff.

If you would like help reducing personal deliveries in your own organisation, please contact CRP Business Engagment Officer Sefinat Otaru.
