Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Delivery Plan

24th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Earlier this month CRP, as a member of the Mayor of London’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Taskforce, attended the launch of the new EV Infrastructure Delivery Plan. To meet the aim of London becoming a zero-carbon city by 2050, the plan highlights how there are currently 20,000 Electric Vehicles in London, 1,700 electric taxis and Europe’s largest electric bus fleet, 175 rapid charge points and 1,100 lamp post charging points. In addition, the plan discusses strategies going forward, for example, the delivery of London’s first rapid charging hub, the publication of charge point and EV guidances, and the creation of a new online tool/ ‘heat mapping’ to identify energy grid constraints.

Mayor of London’s Night Time Enterprise Zone

24th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

The Mayor of London is looking for a partner borough to deliver an Night Time Enterprise Zone (NTEZ) pilot project with £75,000 of grant funding available, which boroughs can bid for. This funding was recommended in January’s Think Night report, published by the London Night Time Commission.

The purpose of the pilot project is to prove the concept of the NTEZ. It will take place in one high street, including a series of evaluated pilot activities and will inform future policy across London. It is hoped that the project will help revive the high street, give Londoners better access to their city after 6 pm and support good work standards at Night.

Future of London’s Making the Most of London’s Waterways Conference

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Future of London‘s Making the Most of London’s Waterways Conference takes place on 20th June 2019.

Development around London’s waterways is surging, putting pressure on waterside spaces to cater to diverse uses – living, leisure, commuting, freight – while safeguarding the environment. At the same time, fragmented ownership and management of waterways bring a host of governance challenges.

The full-day conference will bring together their cross-sector network to share practical approaches to enhancing waterways and waterside spaces as well as managing competing demands – with a view to highlighting lessons which can be applied individually or strategically across any city. CRP’s Director Susannah Wilks, will also be leading a Thames Walkabout breakout session during the conference.

Global Pride Month

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Global Pride Month takes place every year in June and celebrates the heritage of the LGBT+ community and its triumphs over adversity.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, a number of demonstrations which were carried out by members of the LGBT+ community in 1969 which responded to a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village.

As part of Pride Month, CRP’s accountable body Westminster City Council is running a series of events to celebrate.

These range from a Comedy Night, a Being LGBT+ in Business Discussion Panel and a LGBT+ Mental Health Awareness Panel. In addition, Westminster City Council will be having a float at the London Pride Celebrations on July 6th.

CRP is also taking part in a decoration competition to celebrate and raise awareness of Pride Month. We shall share the result and our entry for the competition next month.

Railway Arches and Healthy High Streets

11th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

In line with the government’s policy of selling assets where there is no policy reason for continued public ownership, Network Rail has recently sold off a large number of railway arches. The primary sale objective for Network Rail is not to prejudice the safe and sustainable management of the railway infrastructure and this has successfully been achieved.

However, some recent experience seems to show that small and micro businesses located in the railway arches could be put at risk. It has emerged that the new owners of the arches have increased rents by up to 85% or are being evicted for not fitting their business model.

This goes to show the challenges in creating long-lasting, sustainable, vibrant and healthy commercial high streets in a city as dense and highly prized as London.
