Clean Air Thames

23rd July 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP has started planning the initial stages of the Clean Air Thames project with the Port of London Authority, the City of London Corporation, and others.  The project will be supported by a £500,000 grant from the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund.  The project aims to retrofit 11 vessels to reduce their emissions, especially particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.

One of the next steps will be to finalise the requirements for operators and vessels who wish to apply for funding.  Details will be shared as they become available with a formal announcement at the Greening Inland Shipping Conference on 10 September 2019.

Prudential Ride London Road Closures

17th July 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Prudential Ride London, now entering its seventh year, returns to London and Surrey on 3 and 4 August 2019. TfL are working closely with the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership (LSCP), who deliver the event, to manage the impacts on the network and the travelling public.

Over the event weekend, roads will be closed in central London on Saturday 3 August and in east, west, central and south west London and parts of Surrey on Sunday 4 August. A full list of closures, including expected reopening times can be found on TfL’s website.

For those making or receiving deliveries at this time, given the large-scale road closures, delivery and servicing trips are likely to be affected by congestion and increased journey times. Therefore, it is important that businesses plan ahead and wherever possible try to either retime deliveries to outside the road closure times or reroute journeys to avoid the affected areas.

LSCP also have detailed information about the event on their website: www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk

London Climate Action Week Launch

4th July 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Monday, 1 July 2019 – Cross River Partnership attended the launch of London’s Inaugural Climate Action Week at London City Hall. With opening speeches from HRH Prince of Wales, and Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and engaging speakers, the event was an excellent lead-in to more than 150 registered events between July 1 and July 8.

During his speech, Sadiq Khan highlighted some of the initiatives London’s has carried out to address climate change including the Ultra Low Emission Zone, providing £500m for low carbon solutions, freezing TfL bus fares, providing EV infrastructure, and divesting from fossil fuels (in partnership with C40 Cities).  He also warned against “climate delayers”, decision makers who acknowledge that climate change is a problem but still do nothing about it.

There were two panels, each moderated by Polly Billington, Director of UK100.

The first panel focussed on a community driven approach to tackling climate change. Speakers included Dr Afsheen Rashid MBE (Repowering London), Fatima-Zahra Ibrahim (IPPR Environmental Justice Panel member), Dr Husna Ahmed (Global One) and Sam Gurney (Trades Union Congress).  They discussed the significance of local solutions to global issues and the need to bring communities to the table when forming policies.  Decision makers were advised to enable conversations and collaboration between communities and local authorities, focus on working with people, and foster green industries.

The second panel looked at what business and government can do to address climate change. Comprised of Shirley Rodrigues (London Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy), Nick Mabey (E3G), Helen Hayes (MP, Dulwich and West Norwood), Mike Thompson (Committee on Climate Change) and Nancy Mahon (Estée Lauder). This panel stressed the need to move from research and white papers to taking action.  “Linking” or “joining” was common theme, too – from creating a joined-up city that connects economic action to social and cultural action to linking individual actions to the global agenda.  Also, it is as important to hold businesses accountable as it is to bring them earlier into the policy making process. Three headlines from the recent report from the Committee on Climate Change on how to reach Net Zero include using policy to drive intent/actions; ramping business and innovation, where innovation goes beyond technology, to newer, better ways of doing things; and people.

A brief but lively Q&A session followed the discussions that touched on fossil fuels, consumerism, canopy cover and establishing a city-wide common purpose amongst individual boroughs.

Shirley Rodrigues provided closing remarks urging attendees to spread the word and participate in events taking place around the city over the week.

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Delivery Plan

24th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Earlier this month CRP, as a member of the Mayor of London’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Taskforce, attended the launch of the new EV Infrastructure Delivery Plan. To meet the aim of London becoming a zero-carbon city by 2050, the plan highlights how there are currently 20,000 Electric Vehicles in London, 1,700 electric taxis and Europe’s largest electric bus fleet, 175 rapid charge points and 1,100 lamp post charging points. In addition, the plan discusses strategies going forward, for example, the delivery of London’s first rapid charging hub, the publication of charge point and EV guidances, and the creation of a new online tool/ ‘heat mapping’ to identify energy grid constraints.

Mayor of London’s Night Time Enterprise Zone

24th June 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

The Mayor of London is looking for a partner borough to deliver an Night Time Enterprise Zone (NTEZ) pilot project with £75,000 of grant funding available, which boroughs can bid for. This funding was recommended in January’s Think Night report, published by the London Night Time Commission.

The purpose of the pilot project is to prove the concept of the NTEZ. It will take place in one high street, including a series of evaluated pilot activities and will inform future policy across London. It is hoped that the project will help revive the high street, give Londoners better access to their city after 6 pm and support good work standards at Night.

To apply and for more information please click here. Applications close on the 9th of August.
