CRP are managing the delivery of the Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) programme on a part-time interim basis, on behalf of Westminster City Council and its partners.  We are pleased to be supported by the secondment of Andy Martin, kindly provided to the LEN by TfL for one day a week.

CRP are thrilled to be involved with this exciting Mayors’ Air Quality Funded programme, which is increasing provision of electric vehicle charging; improving public realm; greening; raising awareness and reducing the number of diesel vehicles coming to the area. The Marylebone LEN has recently been commended for a New London Award in the category of Wellbeing.    For information visit www.marylebonelen.org or contact Vicky Keeble vickykeeble@crossriverpartnership.org

West End Air Summit

17th July 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

On 28th June 2017 CRP delivered the West End Air Summit on behalf of four Business Improvement Districts – Baker Street Quarter Partnership; Heart of London Business Alliance, Marble Arch London and New West End Company.  These BIDs are all collaborating to upscale the impact of their efforts in improving air quality in London’s West End.

The event launched this joined up approach, including their ongoing commitment to the West End Buyers Club www.westendbuyersclub.london, a CRP-designed shared suppliers scheme saving businesses money and tackling air pollution.

Jace Tyrrell, Chief Executive, New West End Company; Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor for Environment, Greater London Authority; Penny Alexander, Chief Executive, Baker Street Quarter Partnership; and Councillor Robert Davis MBE Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Business, Culture and Heritage, Westminster City Council all provided insight into what their organisations are doing to support cleaner air in London.  In particular, the Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood (www.marylebonelen.org) is also helping to bring many of the stakeholders together to deliver on multiple aspects of air quality.

LoCITY Roadshows

locity

LoCITY are shortly running four roadshows (i.e. electric, gas, hydrogen and finally ‘Fuels in Action’, which includes renewable fuels and retrofit solutions) – https://locity.org.uk/locity-interactive-roadshows/

The five key reasons to attend are:

  • 01: Hear from technology experts on current applications and future capabilities of each fuel
  • 02: Ask questions to operators already using ultra low emission vans and HGVs in real-life situations
  • 03: Compare the total cost of ownership of alternatively fuelled vehicles compared to their diesel equivalents
  • 04: Gain practical advice from fleet engineers in charge of maintaining alternatively fuelled vehicles
  • 05: Get hands-on with the wide range of vans and trucks taking part in the roadshows, as well as explore the different refuelling mechanisms available

The first event is taking place on 12 July (9am to 1pm) at the University of East London. There will be 8-10 electric vehicles (including HGVs) on show. You will have an opportunity to speak directly to technology experts about current applications and future capabilities and hear first hand from operators who are already using electric vehicles in their fleets.

Mid-term reflections on Freight TAILS

Maastricht Pedestrian Zone Signage

Freight TAILS, CRP’s network of 10 European cities focused on improving the impact of urban freight transport, is currently reflecting on its successes and its opportunities for development.

We have been very pleased to engage many London stakeholders in this network to date from across many local authorities and BIDS.  This includes Transport for London’s Freight and Fleet Communications and Engagement Manager, Tim Ward; who said of his recent attendance at a Freight TAILS network meeting:

“It was good to meet colleagues from across the EU and hear how they are finding ways of reducing the impacts of freight on their cities and communities. It was also interesting to see how Maastricht Bereikbaar is building freight into their plans to make the City more sustainable.”

Last week we attended a meeting of all 20 projects co-funded by ERDF through the URBACT III programme in Paris.   Cross River Partnership was pleased to have been asked to share our good practice in both our project management and capacity building activities at this meeting.

FREVUE Final Conference

26th June 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

Kindly hosted by the City of London Corporation at Guildhall, the FREVUE Final Conference took place on 21 June. Over 200 people attended from London, the UK and our European partner countries in a clear sign of the rising interest in electric freight vehicles. The event provided an opportunity for the FREVUE results to be presented and for the whole range of stakeholders, i.e. freight operators/fleet managers, local authorities, vehicle suppliers, electricity network operators, academia and research institutes to discuss their impact and future steps.

The display of four fully electric freight vehicles in the Guildhall Courtyard provided attendees with real-life examples: A Nissan eNV-200 of 2.2 tonnes gross vehicle weight, a BD Auto eDucato of 3.5 tonnes, an EFA-S Mercedes P80E (UPS) of 7.5 tonnes, and an Emoss truck of 14 tonnes.

FREVUE Final Conference

The FREVUE city leads also presented first results of the Declaration of Intent, signed by freight operators, fleet managers and public authorities to highlight their demand for electric freight vehicles. The high number of vans and trucks already represented by the signatories sends an important indication of actual demand to vehicle suppliers.  The more organisations state their intent to electrify their fleet, the clearer the message and we therefore call on all relevant stakeholders to sign and return the Declaration over the summer.

As Wendy Hyde, elected Councillor at the City of London Corporation and CRP Co-chair noted, “It is only in close cooperation and by joint working that we will make polluting diesel vans and trucks in central London a thing of the past.” The FREVUE Final Conference offered an important opportunity to build and strengthen these links.

Walkable London a best practice guide for a walkable city

23rd June 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

Cross River Partnership (CRP) alongside the Mayor of London has launched Walkable London: Best practice guide for a walkable city showcasing the innovative hot-off-the-press case studies of our central London Business Improvement District and borough partners.

With an introduction by Walking and Cycling Commissioner Will Norman, the best practice guide, demonstrates how walking offers an affordable solution to some of our most complex urban challenges. Walking not only brings health benefits, it makes us happier, it helps bring communities together, it boosts local economies and above all it’s a fun way to explore our great city.

The best practice guide demonstrates how a range of local interventions such as greening, lighting and seating can have a big impact on our walking experience. Promoting walking need not require a big budget and a range of small interventions over time can have a huge benefit.

The toolkit was launched last week to coincide with National Clean Air Action Day and CRP’s Clean Air Walking Routes initiative.
