Healthy Streets for London Event

Healthy Streets for London Event

Cross River Partnership, alongside some of London’s leading place shapers and transport experts, attended Transport for London’s (TfL’s) healthy streets workshop on 17 March.

The event showcased TfL’s Healthy Streets approach to transport and the importance of staying active every day.

Deputy Mayor Val Shawcross in her opening address highlighted that 6.5 million door-to-door trips are made in London each day however the experience of walking on London’s streets can be poor and too many Londoners face barriers to walking. Adding to this, the demand for accessible streets will continue to rise as our population grows.

Many of the guest presenters recognised that the majority of top causes of illness relate to inactivity and that the best way to incorporate activity into our daily life is through our commute.

There are also great economic benefits to be gained from a pedestrian and cycling friendly city – did you know people who walk compared to cars spend 65% more in shops?

It was inspiring to hear about the steps that Paris and New York City have already taken to make their cities sustainable, vibrant, healthy, green, and fairer.

London is the best city in the world and together the aim is to make London the best city in the world for walking.

In the words of our Walking and Cycling Commissioner Will Norman – ‘walking is not pedestrian!’

FREVUE Report on the Technical Suitability of Electric Freight Vehicles

1st March 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

The first of the key FREVUE reports is now being finalised.

The report is based on 2.5 years of data from 83 vehicles and a total of 470,000 miles driven. This substantial amount of information on electric freight vehicles in operation, which the FREVUE project brings together for the first time, confirms the assumption that the current generation of these vehicles is well suited for many types of inner city freight operations. It also shows that the optimum ambient temperature for electric freight vehicles to operate in is 10-15°C, making London an ideal environment for them.

FREVUE tech report

We look forward to sharing the whole report shortly.

The next FREVUE reports due are an update of the state-of-the-art in city logistics as well as a report on the economics of electric freight vehicles.

For more information, please see www.frevue.eu or contact CRP’s FREVUE Coordinator Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer on tdmuenchmeyer@westminster.gov.uk.

London Finance Commission

28th February 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

The London Finance Commission, which helps the Mayor and London’s Local Authorities to improve the tax and public spending arrangements for the city, recently published a report named ‘Devolution: a Capital Idea’. CRP supported a group of Inner London BIDs with a response to the initial devolution proposals, which has been quoted in the final report:

“[in] an increasingly complex economy, facing major challenges not only from Brexit but also from the UK’s chronic low productivity and other issues, London (and all other regions) needs the discretion, flexibility, “fleetness of foot” and ability to take decisions rapidly, while at the same time consulting properly on them first”.

CRP looks forward to continuing to work with the Mayor of London, London Local Authorities and London BIDs to help influence and deliver the best possible outcomes for ongoing financial arrangements.

For further information please contact CRP Director Susannah Wilks.

Redirecting Personal Deliveries
