Welcome to CRP

14th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

Nina joined Cross River Partnership in November 2018, supporting the team with admin work and mainly helping the Recruit London Specialist Workplace Coordinators with their daily tasks. Nina had been unemployed for eight years, following an illness that left her with some physical disability. Nina is doing a job share and works four days a week for CRP.

Previously, Nina worked in admin positions for health organisations and a number of Charities in volunteering roles like WPFC (Westbourne Park Family Centre), at drop in sessions for mums and children, The Mosaic Community Trust in conducting workshops for women of disadvantaged backgrounds in helping them to integrate into society and Church Street Library in IT drop in sessions in helping people to learn the basics in IT use.

On 6th February 2019, CRP and project partners UPS and UK Power Networks are inviting fleet managers to a SEUL project presentation and interactive workshop.

The Smart Electric Urban Logistics (SEUL) project is supporting the wider transition to electric vehicles for larger commercial fleets. The project is successfully trialling smart charging technology integrating energy storage and is also developing an innovative tool to better assess and use existing grid capacity.

Following short introductory presentations from CRP, UPS and UKPN, attendees will break into two workshop groups to discuss the issues in more detail. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and consider how freight electrification and smart charging can benefit businesses.

The Smart Electric Urban Logistics project is part of the Low Emission Freight and Logistics Trials, funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) in partnership with Innovate UK. For more information, please see the project webpage here or contact CRP’s Programme Manager Electric Freight Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer.

Mayor’s Air Quality Fund

14th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP has developed and submitted two cross-sector, multi-borough applications to the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund:
Clean Air Thames – to shift freight off road and on to river vessels retro-fitted to reduce emissions.
Healthy Streets Everyday – to deliver pedestrian-priority healthy streets and car-free events across 16 boroughs.

If successfully funded, both collaborative, CRP-led projects would build on the emission reductions and behaviour change to be delivered under the Mayor’s Ultra Low Emission Zone coming into force in April 2019.

Please contact CRP’s Tanja or Brendon for more information.

FREVUE – ‘It’s a wrap!’

14th January 2019 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP’s Freight Electric Vehicles in Urban Europe (FREVUE) Project will shortly be officially closed down following payment to project partners for the final claims.   This unique and successful €14 million project was co-funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and co-ordinated by CRP.  The project demonstrated how large electric freight vehicles and trucks could contribute to some of the solutions to poor air quality in urban areas.  The FREVUE partnership consisted of 32 local and European partners from both the public and private sectors concentrated around the cities of Amsterdam, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Milan, Oslo, Rotterdam and Stockholm.   London partners included Westminster City Council, UPS, UK Power Networks, Imperial College, Transport for London and Arup.

CRP would like to thank the European Commission, it’s project partners and stakeholders in helping to make the 4.5 year project a resounding success.  For further information, please contact CRP’s Principal Programme Manager, Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer.

Overcoming London’s Barriers

12th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

London is quickly running out of easy places to build, leaving remaining sites often divided by physical barriers, such as road or rail, and artificial barriers, such as borough boundaries and ‘red lines’ that delineate estates. The Future of London has launched its Overcoming Barriers Report which looks at innovative and effective approaches to overcoming these barriers.

The report uses Cross River Partnership’s 2002 project as a great example of reframing railways. With support from local authorities, the Single Regeneration Budget, TfL, Network Rail, the Railways Heritage Trust and the London Development Agency, ‘CRP deep-cleaned several railway arches and underpasses near the South Bank and illuminated them with public art and/or lighting, making them more inviting as walking routes. Other arches were turned into retail units.’

TfL Bus Review Consultation

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP have submitted a strategic response to the Transport for London (TfL) consultation on the proposed changes to bus routes in central London. TfL’s proposed changes will look to simplify the bus network and as well as improve efficiency.

The response was developed in collaboration with CRP partner boroughs and BIDs. It requests that the TfL bus review focus on improving air quality, reliability and reducing congestion.  In addition:

“CRP is committed to contributing positively to shaping the revised bus service to be as efficient, effective and economical as it can be for as many Londoners as possible.”

CRP will wait to hear the analysis of the TfL Bus Review consultation responses.

Crouch End – Air Quality Business Engagement Project

10th December 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

Cross River Partnership (CRP) has recently delivered for the London Borough of Haringey an air quality business engagement project, between February and November 2018.

Working towards Haringey’s air quality improvement efforts, CRP has been engaging with local businesses in Crouch End to help raise awareness of air pollution amongst the business community and reduce individual business emissions.

Over the past 10 months a total of 59 businesses completed an air quality survey and 24 businesses have had one-to-one in-depth discussions with CRP regarding their practises.

Suggestions for solutions included the implementation of low/zero emission delivery vehicles, the introduction of a low emission preferred supplier scheme and the opportunity for businesses to be able to re-time deliveries to quieter periods.

For more information, please contact Kiran Kumar.
