Dear Editor

Support for Mayor’s new T-Charge

As business groups and local authorities based in and around central London we strongly welcome the introduction of T-charge on the 23rd October.

Air pollution is not only bad for our health, it’s bad for business. If we want to continue to attract and keep staff, investment, tourists, and major international conferences and events to London we need to address the air pollution crisis. Furthermore, by addressing this issue, and making London’s air cleaner and its environment more pleasant, we can give ourselves the edge over other world cities, which is even more important in the wake of Brexit.

The T-charge is the start of a step change in London that will be good for people and good for business. It’s just the beginning of the action that we need to see. We need to see the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in place and expanded as soon as possible, and we strongly welcome the Mayor of London’s proposal to introduce the ULEZ in April 2019, and to expand it shortly thereafter.

As business groups and local authorities we want to play our part in ensuring our staff and customers have a safe and healthy environment, and we welcome this leadership from the Mayor. We are also calling on the Government to step up and play their part. We need Government support for diesel scrappage to help small to medium sized businesses switch to ULEZ-compliant vehicles, and much better incentives need to be in place at the national level to support businesses in making the switch to zero emission vehicles.‎

We are looking forward to enjoying a cleaner healthier business environment in London – and this is something that we all need to play our part to achieve.

Yours sincerely,
Susannah Wilks
Director

Click. Collect. Clean Air.

6th October 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

With less than 3 months until Christmas many businesses can expect to see an increase in personal deliveries to their receptions and postrooms. CRP’s ‘Click. Collect. Clean Air’ behaviour change campaign is helping reduce this, saving businesses time and helping reduce delivery traffic and associated air pollution in central London.

This campaign is built around an interactive online guide (www.clickcollect.london) to the various ‘click and collect’ options available to people near their homes. Almost 20 of CRP’s partners have branded versions of the site and promotional materials and are encouraging employers to promote alternatives to their staff.

If you would like help reducing personal deliveries in your own organisation, please contact CRP Business Engagment Officer Sefinat Otaru.

Reducing Exposure to Air Pollution

6th October 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, last week triggered a “high” air pollution alert – the seventh time in just over a year. Warnings were displayed at bus stops, road signs and on the underground encouraging Londoners to reduce their exposure to toxic air.

CRP’s clean air route finder at www.cleanairroutes.london makes it easy to reduce exposure by linking Google’s journey planner with Kings College London’s live air pollution data. Users simply enter a start and end point and receive alternative routes colour-coded by their level of air pollution.

Please contact CRP’s Air Quality Project Manager, Brendon Harper if you would like a branded version of the route finder embedded on your website.

CRP Team Away Day

4th October 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

Cross River Partnership hosted an exciting team away day on the 26th Sept. This commenced with job shadowing between Recruit London and Deliver London team members to gain greater insight into each others’ projects. This was followed by an opportunity to have round-table interactive sessions that polished ‘elevator pitches’, maximising our social media impact and finally a ‘thought shower’ on the 4 CRP objectives:

  • Sustainable Employment Opportunities
  • Economic Growth and Prosperity
  • Air Quality and Carbon Reduction
  • Making Places that Work

We were very privileged to have both public and private sector co-chairs attend at intervals during the day and inspire the team to continue working hard on ‘Delivering London’s Future Together’.  Thank you to Councillor Wendy Hyde and Simon Pitkeathley!

High Streets for All

3rd October 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

This week the Mayor of London launched the High Streets for All report. The study explores the social value of the high street and uses this evidence to set out the strategic case for advocacy, intervention and investment in London’s high streets.

Supported by the London Economic Action Partnership the research identified a wide range of high street functions that provide immense social value and should be protected and enhanced.

CRP looks forward to continuing to work closely with our public and private sector partners to maximise the benefits from London’s high streets.

Recruit London Pilot

3rd October 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP’s Recruit London in conjunction with Veolia and The Connection at St. Martin in the Fields have set up a pilot to work with street homeless people in Westminster. Every 6 weeks, 5 rough sleepers are actively recruited and supported to sustain employment by Recruit London and The Restart Project in conjunction with The Connection.

Laurentiu is a 38 year old man originally from Romania.  He came to London to look for employment but found himself living on the streets of Westminster.

I had been in London for two weeks.  Since coming to London, I had been actively looking for a job. I found out about The Connection and that they helped with getting people employment.  I went and registered and soon after, I was told about the ReStart Project and jobs with Veolia.  I was interviewed and I was offered a job.  They told me about the areas available to work and the time shifts.  I now work in China Town and I like working at night so my shift is 10pm to 6am.   I get paid weekly for the first 12 weeks, so I now have money in my pocket and I can start to look for accommodation”!

National Recycling Week at CRP & Heart of London

3rd October 2017 / Posted by CRP Team

Cross River Partnership have been supporting Heart of London to promote national recycling week.  Heart of London businesses and CRP have been tweeting their pledges to improve recycling as well as some great examples of implementing a circular economy.   From handbags made of M&Ms wrappers, to restaurants pledging to recycle more food waste, there is so much work that businesses already do to reduce their waste #recycleweek @HOLBID

CRP produced this video for Heart of London to demonstrate how easy it is. Please share with friends and colleagues.

CRP have also supported Heart of London in choosing their preferred suppliers for waste, Westminster City Council and Paper Round.   Both organisations were chosen for their high sustainable credentials in waste management practices and are being advertised to Heart of London businesses through the West End Buyers Club, aimed at reducing the number of servicing vehicles to improve air quality.
