The Mayor’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Taskforce

20th June 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP has been invited to join the Mayor’s new Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Taskforce chaired by Shirley Rodrigues, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy.

The 16-member Taskforce was launched on 31 May 2018. It will provide guidance on how to implement the Mayor’s vision of a zero emission transport network by 2050, focusing on the lack of electric vehicle charging infrastructure that remains an important barrier to the take-up of EVs.

Based on previous and ongoing work such as FREVUE, Smart Electric Urban Logistics as well as our recent report on Electric Freight Vehicles in Central London: Local Grid Capacity, CRP will be glad to contribute to the Taskforce discussions feeding into a shared EV Infrastructure Delivery Plan to be published next year.

For more information please see the GLA’s press release or contact CRP’s Programme Manager Electric Freight Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer.

CLSTRP and the LIP Process

20th June 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

London boroughs are currently in the process of drafting their Local Implementation Plans (LIPs). Each London borough is required to develop a LIP which sets out how the borough will deliver the 2018 Mayor’s Transport Strategy (MTS) at a local level.

These are the third round of LIP development and the guidance documents provided by Transport for London, which have been published alongside the MTS.

The CRP-managed Central London Sub-regional Transport Partnership (CLSRTP) will be hosting a special collaborative LIP meeting in July. This will enable the group to identify cross boundary issues that cut across all the central London boroughs e.g. air quality, traffic reduction and network planning etc. The meeting will allow for robust discussions and identify any potential for aligning policies. We will extend the invitation to include the London Boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

Borough partners will then have the opportunity after the meeting to view CRP’s Clean Air Together exhibition that is running until 30th July at the New London Architecture (NLA) exhibition centre. Officers will be encouraged to make pledges on how they can contribute towards improving London’s air quality.

Electric Freight Vehicles in Central London: Local Grid Capacity

17th May 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

EV van charging

CRP has produced, on behalf of the Central London Sub Regional Transport Partnership, a report on the issue of local electricity supply in the transition to Electric Freight Vehicles (EFVs). This report is based on CRP’s extensive project delivery experience in this area, as well as background enquiry and discussions with stakeholders involved in energy, regulation, policy and industry. Currently, freight operators wishing to incorporate electric vehicles into their fleet face the prospect of needing to upgrade the local electricity grid connection where there is insufficient spare capacity for the charging requirements of freight vehicles. This can be costly, legally complex and disruptive, and act as a deterrent to the uptake of EFVs, as well as jeopardise any positive business case. If the benefits of the projected growth in EFVs are to be realised in terms of reduced transport based emissions, this is one of the issues which needs to be addressed, but which is currently not well understood. The report finds that the market is starting to develop models which can address this, but at all levels better understanding of the issue is necessary, along with the range of solutions available. The report is available to download from the CRP website.

Recruit London Candidate Case Study

Pasang

Pasang, a local unemployed resident of Westminster, was referred to the Recruit London project by Marylebone Job Centre.  Pasang found it difficult being out of work but also knew that he did not want to work back in a kitchen – which was where his experience lay.  Pasang was excited to be put forward for an outdoor cleaning role with Incentive FM (with Capco) and received support from a Recruit London Workplace Coordinator in advance of his job interview.  Pasang has settled into his new role well and is really happy to be working outside as a Cleaning Operative.

Clean Air Villages – Do get involved

14th May 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

CRP is very happy to start the Clean Air Villages project funded by Defra’s latest Clean Air Grant. CRP will be delivering the project for lead partner London Borough of Lambeth as well as the four partner boroughs Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea and Lewisham. Each partner borough has identified two air pollution hotspots in which the Clean Air Villages project will work with businesses and communities to make deliveries and servicing more efficient.

CAVs

As a first step, CRP aims to consult with local organisations to fully understand their specific needs and demand for co-ordinated and tailored solutions. If you are a local business and/or community in one of the ten Clean Air Villages above and would like to get involved, please contact CRP’s Programme Manager Tanja Dalle-Muenchmeyer.

Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood looks to the year ahead

30th April 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

The Marylebone Low Emission Neighbourhood (LEN) programme was established in 2016 after a successful bid by Westminster City Council to the Mayor’s Air Quality Fund.

Over the next twelve months CRP will oversee the delivery of LEN interventions to improve air quality in the Marylebone area, as well as innovative mobile air quality monitoring and continued rollout of electric taxi and vehicle charging facilities, deliveries and servicing advice for businesses, a schools engagement programme and diesel surcharge scheme.

The LEN also has two dedicated Air Quality Marshals patrolling the streets of Marylebone for the next year, reminding drivers of the harm of unnecessary engine idling and asking drivers to switch off when they can. The marshals are able to issue fines of up to £80 to drivers refusing to switch off when asked. CRP produced a short video for the Marylebone LEN busting some of the myths about engine idling, and we are able to provide resources and advice to local businesses operating vehicle fleets, alongside free support to look at deliveries and servicing using the deliverBEST online tool and the West End Buyers Club.

To find out more about the Marylebone LEN, visit the website at www.MaryleboneLEN.org or contact CRP’s Tom Linton-Smith.AQ marshals

Autonomous Freight Vehicle study

26th April 2018 / Posted by CRP Team

Cross River Partnership (CRP) has commissioned on behalf of the Central London Sub Regional Transport Partnership (CLSRTP) a study to provide analysis of the impact of autonomous freight vehicles (AVs) on central London boroughs, with recommendations of future actions.

This study is novel as the focus lies on AVs for deliveries and servicing and how the deployment of these vehicles will impact upon wider transport and public space in London.

Technical experts Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) conducted the study, which involved in depth interviews with a range of stakeholder groups for input; Central Government, Local Authorities, Logistics Operators, OEMS and the Automotive Industry, Academics, Insurers and London-based business improvement districts.

The report is now publically available to download from the CRP website.

Continuing with the theme of innovation, we have an upcoming study looking at the role of art in public urban spaces. The focus is on how to utilise art to create healthier spaces across central London.
