STREET-15 (School-Driven Transformation for Resilient, Engaged and Equitable Youth-Centric 15-Minute Neighbourhoods) is a three-year Driving Urban Transitions-funded project that tackles the urgent need for safer, more inclusive urban mobility by focusing on school streets, car-free zones around schools that reduce traffic, pollution, and safety risks.

The project aims to reframe school streets from safety measures into urban transition experiments for scaling 15-minute neighbourhoods that place children and youth at the centre. STREET-15 will develop and test new school street models by working with children, families, and local authorities in Bergen (Norway), London (UK), and Naples (Italy). These cities will act as Living Labs, where school street approaches are co-designed, trialled, and evaluated to support more inclusive, youth-led, and long-term changes to urban mobility.

CRP is leading the delivery of Living Labs for youth engagement in London which will involve:

  • Developing a Living Lab framework and methodology
  • Leading activation and community engagement
  • Co-creating the London Living Lab
  • Producing policy recommendations

Project outputs will include practical tools for school street delivery, frameworks for inclusive and participatory planning, and a School Streets Atlas, empowering cities, researchers, and citizens to create healthier, more equitable urban environments. This approach uniquely bridges tactical urbanism with strategic planning while placing children and youth at the centre of urban transformation.
