HSE II Steering Group Meeting

It’s over halfway through the Healthy Streets Everyday II programme, and CRP recently held it’s fifth Steering Group Meeting on Old York Road in Wandsworth Town.

London Borough of Wandsworth officers hosted CRP and the HSE II programme partners to give a detailed insight into how Old York Road has transformed over a number of years, with COVID-19 as a catalyst to reimagine the street. The HSE II programme is contributing funding towards this exciting project.

The initiative began as a temporary trial during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering a unique chance to reimagine the street as a safer, greener, and more community-focused space.

This has included creating pedestrianised areas, shared spaces for cyclists and pedestrians, planting and greening, and upgraded paving. Extra consideration has also been given to “sight lines” on the street, to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to have clearer visibility on the road and help to reduce road danger.

These enhancements are designed to create a more welcoming, accessible, and inclusive public realm that encourages active travel, supports local businesses ️and improves local air quality!

The Steering Group Meeting also brought together project partners to share updates, exchange ideas, and celebrate the progress being made across the HSE II programme.
